The emerit professional certification is designed to recognize excellence at various stages of career development: from new graduates searching for their first job to recent hires aspiring for higher recognition and broader responsibilities to experienced professionals advancing their skills and moving up specific career paths.

emerit Professional Certification is the pinnacle recognition in the Canadian tourism industry. It is awarded when an employee demonstrates that they have mastered the required skills and met the standards of their profession in a practical job setting. This includes writing an examination proving their knowledge of the emerit material, followed by evaluation in a real-world setting to demonstrate their mastery of the practical course component.

emerit Designations

A designation is an official title. It is awarded to a candidate upon successful completion of the certification requirements. The designation refers to both the words and abbreviations of those words, which is an indication of the achieved certification type or competency. There are three designations that may be awarded under the emerit professional Certification program.

Designations convey important information about the title holder. In Canada, professionals in the tourism industry use a variety of titles and designations to identify themselves. emerit designations apply to 27 occupational classifications.

Upon successful completion of the emerit certification process and receipt of the applicable professional certificate, candidates earn the following professional designations and the right to display them on business cards and résumés:

• As a Supervisor responsible for managing people, you can achieve the Tourism Certified Supervisor (TCS) designation.
• As a Manager performing project management functions, you are eligible for the Tourism Certified Manager (TCM) designation.
• As a Frontline employee carrying out customer-facing responsibilities, you are eligible for the Tourism Certified Professional (TCP) designation.

Candidates may choose to apply for one or receive all three designations, depending on the occupation and their level of experience. When applicable, recognition earned for one designation will be credited toward the next one.
